TORA KAI KARATE – Karate (Japanese: “empty hand”) is an unarmed martial-arts discipline employing kicking, striking, and defensive blocking with arms and legs. Emphasis is on concentrating as much of the body’s power as possible at the point and instant of impact. Striking surfaces include the hands (particularly the knuckles and the outer edge), ball of the foot, heel, forearm, knee, and elbow.
Tora Kai is a Freestyle Karate system developed by Shihan Ken Stronach, incorporating Black Belt and above levels of experience in multiple Karate styles. Tora Kai is a dynamic, modern, applicable Karate style, with influences from other martial arts, its unique forms(katas) are challenging on many levels, encouraging our students to develop a multitude of skills applicable to modern day self defence.
TORA KAI COMBATIVE AIKIDO – Combative Aikido is a combination of modern and traditional martial arts. It is both mentally and physically stimulating to study, and lots of fun to learn. Combative Aikido also works well as a self defence system, using the negative force of an attacker and turning their energy into a positive force of defence. Dynamic locks, traps along with judo and jiu jitsu throws and take downs are just some of the Combative Aikido techniques that are employed alongside the explosive striking techniques of karate to form a powerful system of self defence that is designed to help you deal with the physical aggression found in today’s modern world.
MUSHIN WELL BEING- The term is a shortened form of, ‘Mushin no shin’ (無心の心). This Zen expression means basically, ‘mind without mind’. It refers to the state of ‘no-mindness’, or the state of mind that is not fixed, not cluttered by thoughts or emotion. Using this concept as a base, our Mushin style incorporates Tai Chi and Qi Gong movements, karate, aikido and breathing techniques to form a flowing, meditative system.
UCD (URBAN COMBAT DEFENCE) – A reality based self defence system, UCD utilises elements from many Martial Arts styles along with military and law enforcement systems. This creates a self defence system in its self that is realistic and applicable to modern day living, both on a physical and a physiological level. The method of training used in UCD is not like traditional Martial Arts, it is the concept and understanding of urban battle and self defence, that when learned and drilled correctly produces one of the best reality based self defence systems available. UCD is effective for both men and women, and both civilian and military/law enforcement.
Using experience gained from decades of security work and martial arts training, Urban Combat Defence is a self defence system teaching more than just physical moves. We go above and beyond to promote safety and awareness through lifestyle management, security psychology and conflict management. This of course is backed by a physical self defence system designed to WIN rather than just survive.
